This summer the Goldie Floberg is experimenting with a new volunteer program called Kids Corps. The program consists of children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews of Goldie Floberg staff who spend some of their summer break volunteering with the Center. Kids Corps members have been helping people we serve with their community garden that helps supplement the diets of the people we serve, read to people served, help them play games, and volunteering with our client microbusiness Goldie’s Gourmet Goodies. The experiment has been a success so far with young people learning about people with developmental disabilities, making new friends and building up their self-esteem by making a difference in the lives of people we serve. The people we serve are getting opportunities to interact with energetic, fun loving kids and get to share their interests with the Kids Corps volunteers.
