Community Based Living |
|
The Center utilizes homes and apartments in the cities and towns of South Beloit, Rockford, and Loves Park. The use of three and four bedroom homes (three to four clients) and two bedroom apartments (two clients) provide a setting, which is most home-like and most similar to any other residence in the community. These smaller settings also promote “fitting-in” with their community; and therefore are more acceptable to the neighborhood, as opposed to larger group home settings. The smaller home-like settings enable the clients to participate more fully in their neighborhood and community because they are an integral part. They attend neighborhood schools, shop and work in neighborhood businesses, use neighborhood parks and recreation facilities and socialize with their neighbors as any other community resident. The incredible progress and achievements gained by clients living in these smaller settings has been validated on a national basis. The ability for a young person, who has reached the age of eighteen to remain in their own home in the community, if they choose, is critical. |
